I have been wanting to do this for some time, but was trying to develop something stunningly creative. With an apparent iceberg of a block, I am going to proceed with a totally uninspired number scale.
Books will receive 1 out 5 (5 as the highest) or somewhere on that scale for overall recommendation. The number will be indicated by a heart:
For “heat index” or mature content, I will be using a traditional motion picture style scale. Including the following:
G: Very clean, no mature content or intimacy. Jane Austen would be a perfect example!
PG: Clean. Some light adult subject matter or intimacy. Georgette Heyer will typically be here.
M: Mature or Parental Preview Recommended. Some adult subject matter and/or intimacy. Includes: bad language, intimate contact beyond kissing, plots involving gambling/violence/prostitution/adultery/etc.
M15+: Not recommended for children under 15. Adult subject matter, language, violence and/or intimate scenes.
NC17+: Not recommended for children under 17. Heavy with adult subject matter and/or erotic content.
Naturally, these ratings are my opinion only.
If you have any suggestions for how I might improve this scale, please, please, please let me know!
