This beautiful reissue (or will it be as dated in 10 years as the 90s cover) caught my eye in the supermarket, so I picked it up. Not having read Loretta Chase before, I was impressed by the high accolades she has received.
This is a fan favorite, but one I had a hard time swallowing. Overall it was well crafted, but I didn’t really like the characters. Scenes meant to be funny seemed a little rough and sad to me.
Comparing it to the likes of Georgette Heyer, as some fans are wont to do, seems a bit far fetched. And although I love the anti-hero, this character is a real blackguard.
However, I can honestly say that I read this one several months ago and have little to no recollection of it. So, in order to give it a fair shake, I am going to reread and re-report….
Stay tuned!
